“No one should ever feel like they’ve run out of options. My role is to research, connect, and coordinate the care that leads you toward hope, healing, and the best possible outcomes.”

— Cindy Johnson, BCPA, CSA

When you or someone you love is facing a serious diagnosis, complex medical condition, or uncertainty about a current treatment plan, it can be difficult to know whether you've explored all available options.

The Patient Advocate Agency helps patients and families research treatment options, specialists, medical centers, second opinions, clinical trials, and other healthcare resources locally and nationwide. We help organize and evaluate the information available so you can have more informed conversations with your treating physicians and make decisions with greater clarity and confidence.

Our role is not to diagnose conditions or prescribe or recommend medical treatment. We provide independent research, healthcare navigation, coordination, and advocacy based on each client's individual situation.

Looking Beyond the First Treatment Plan

A diagnosis or recommended treatment does not always mean there is only one path forward.

Depending on the condition, there may be different treatment approaches, specialists with additional expertise, specialized medical centers, clinical trials, or opportunities for a second opinion.

We help clients broaden their search beyond the options immediately presented to them. When appropriate, our research can extend beyond Palm Springs and Southern California to leading specialists, academic medical centers, and healthcare resources throughout the country.

Our research may include:

  • Treatment approaches related to a client's diagnosis

  • Physicians with specialized expertise

  • Major medical and academic centers

  • Second-opinion programs

  • Clinical trials

  • Emerging or advanced treatment options

  • Relevant medical literature and patient resources

  • Options outside the client's immediate geographic area

Second Opinions

A second opinion can provide additional information, confirm an existing treatment approach, or identify questions and alternatives worth discussing with your healthcare team.

We help identify physicians and medical centers with relevant expertise and can assist with coordinating the process. This may include gathering medical records, imaging and test results, organizing information, scheduling consultations, and helping clients prepare questions before the appointment.

Clinical Trials & Specialized

Treatment Resources

For some serious, complex, or difficult-to-treat conditions, clients may want to understand whether clinical trials or specialized treatment programs are available.

We can research publicly available clinical trials and specialized programs related to a client's condition and help organize the information for discussion with the client's treating physician. When a client wishes to pursue an opportunity, we can also help coordinate records and communication with the appropriate program.

Helping You Make Sense of the Information

Medical research can quickly become overwhelming. Our role is not simply to find information, but to help organize it into something useful.

We help clients understand the questions they may want to ask, compare available resources, organize medical information, and prepare for discussions with physicians and specialists. When needed, this research can become part of a broader care-coordination relationship, allowing us to help coordinate appointments, records, specialists, second opinions, and follow-up as the client's care progresses.
